Our List of Proverbs

List of proverbs

I have heard them a million times, and bet you have too; someone quoting from the Bible Proverbs or one of the old Irish proverbs, Japanese proverbs, or any one of the famous proverbs from another culture. Proverbs from around the world, especially proverbs from the bible are as common place as the name John or James…we just don’t think about it.

Take for Example Proverbs 31

Of all the love poems and quotes from the Bible, this beautiful poem is about virtuous woman.

It speaks to both men and women actually, to show them both how valuable to each other they really are. From the beginning to the end of their relationship, there really are instructions for our lives.

Even though it paints a picture of how a truly lovely wife should be, her duties, how she should live a life for God, her husband, and family; it also promises great rewards.

However, if this is followed clearly and concisely, she is also promised a place of position and ability. She has a large household, means, a plot of land, knowledge and charm. She is diligent, wise, and caring, devoted to her husband and to her family.

Ladies (and gentlemen) now listen up here

The very first line also reminds the men that “her price is far above rubies”, and implies that good women are very scarce, and there are many more that seem to be so, and prove themselves not to be so my suggestion is find the “good one”, sit back and read all those things you can delegate the authority to. See how many stresses of life can be alleviated when everyone follows the instructions laid out in these wise old biblical proverbs.

Proverbs 31:10-31 of the King James Version says: Reduced for sake of space

Who can find a virtuous woman…for her price is far above rubies.

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
